Destination: Baracoa, Guantánamo
Baracoa, dating from 1512, was the first of the seven settlements which Spanish Governor Diego Velázquez founded in Cuba. Now, it is a picturesque town bounded by wooded areas similar to the ones the Conquistadors saw. In Baracoa, you can still see parts of the solid system of colonial fortifications which were used to defend the settlement against attacks by pirates and corsairs.
